Tasting Notes
The 2014 Beauregard Ranch Chardonnay has a bright golden yellow core moving to a hint of green and gold on the rim. The nose is powerful and ripe with classic notes of ripe yellow apple, bosc pear, candied lemon, citrus blossoms and a touch of dried pineapple with well integrated notes of vanilla and various baking spices in the background. The palate is round and rich with similar flavors to the nose, but a touch more restraint with more citrus notes coming into play. The finish of the wine is refreshing and balanced by a perfect level of acidity to frame the richness of the wine. This 2014 is a perfect example of Beauregard Ranch which is ready to drink out of the gate, but will most likely peak between 2018 and 2020 for those of you who have patience. Do not drink this wine too cold or the personality of the wine will be subdued, cellar temperature (55F) or a touch below is ideal for the full expression of the wine to show. (Drink 2016-2020 - 50 to 60F - Burgundy Stems)
Vineyard Notes
The Beauregard Ranch vineyard is located in the heart of the Ben Lomond Mountain (Bonny Doon) and sits at an elevation of 700 to 1850 feet on a southwest facing slope. Monterey Bay marine influences combine with sandy loam soil to produce wines with minerality and striking acidity. Plantings: Four acres Pinot noir, clones of Pommard, 667 & 115. One acre Chardonnay, clone 4. Three acres Zinfandel, clone Primitivo. Four acres Cabernet Sauvignon, Dijon clone.
