Santa Cruz Mountains
This Opaque and dark purple syrah leads into expressions of black and blue berry preserves intermingled with notes of herbs de Provence and Corrilitos smoked meats. This wine shows an immense savory mouth feel loaded with black berry, black cherry and stewed plums all surrounded by lavish vanillin’s and a touch of toasty oak.
The Nelson Family Vineyard is located on upper Zayante near Summit Road in the Santa Cruz Mountains at 1700 feet elevation. The Australian clone of Syrah is suited well in the sandy loam soils. The vines are grown on a quadrilateral, vertical shoot positioning system allowing for super dense spacing. The vines are allowed to each have a low crop load, but there can still be a large yield while maintaining quality.
