Santa Cruz Mountains
Almost crystal-clear in the glass with a touch of green, this bottling shows broad aromas of crisp asian pear, peach, squeezed lime and wet stone. Aged in the concrete egg 'sur lees' gives the wine body with a creamy mouth feel. The wine has tension from sip to satisfying sip. The palate matches the aromas with elegant flavors of stone fruit, lime zest, and a unmistakable minerality that can only come from the Santa Cruz Mountains that is beautifully framed with striking acidity. Serve slightly chilled (45F) in a large Bordeaux stem. Enjoy between 2020 - 2024.
Ascona Vineyards is located off of Skyline Boulevard in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The vineyard is planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Sangiovese, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir. Originally planted in 2002, the 4/5 acres vineyard sits at an elevation of 2,500 feet.
The 'Oeuf en Béton' is a large concrete egg for aging wines. What makes the concrete exciting for us is it's ability to showcase the purity of the wine. To expand upon this, there is no influence of; oak, micro-oxygenation (concentrating due to evaporation through the barrel), residual stainless steel flavors, etc. What you get with this wine is; purity, pure Santa Cruz Mountains, pure terroir. It is the best expression of sense of place I have ever experienced in a wine.
