Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2015 Zayante Rose displays a light pink core with highly reflective light pink and ruby hues on the rim. The aromas are fresh and intense with notes of creamed white peach puree, wild strawberry, orange blossoms, apricot, melon, wet rose petals, lees and crushed stones. The palate is rich and full of flavor with similar flavors to the nose, yet with notes of kaffir lime zest and lemon peel bringing freshness and perfectly framing the rich core. This wine is peaking now and should be consumed in its youth over the next year or so at 45-50 degrees in Burgundy stems. If you have access to a whole salmon, throw it on the grill stuffed with fennel and lemon and have plenty of this chilled when it comes off the grill! This is a wine to enjoy with food and would go well with a wide style of different cuisines. - Mater Sommelier Ian Cauble
Vineyard Notes
Located in the Upper Zayante area of the Santa Cruz Mountains and planted in 1988 on a southwest facing slope at 1,100 to 1,300 feet. The vineyard is own-rooted, dry farmed, and certified organic. Sandstone and loamy soils with plantings of Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera and Grenache. We consider Zayante Vineyard one of the most treasured partnerships. Greg Nolton is a very skilled farmer. His vines are dry farmed and everything is organic. Greg grows his vines using old world methods that many modern day vintners may frown upon, but for us it is magic. The wines come out so expressive of his site that it is quite stunning, and the dry farming leads to unparalleled intensity.
