Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2013 Beauregard “Meritage” is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the organically farmed Zayante vineyard not far from the winery. The wine has a highly concentrated garnet red center moving to a light garnet/ slight purplish rim. The aromas are ripe, yet balanced, showing notes of red and black currants, black plum, black cherry, leather, cedar, wet rocks, sandalwood and fresh vanilla bean. The palate is full bodied and multi-layered with a perfect harmony between ripe fruit, oak and earth. This wine is still in its youth and will be best if left to rest for 2-3 years before drinking, although those of you who enjoy ripe and primary fruit will be blown away. I recommend decanting this wine for 1 hour or more and serving it at about 60-65 degrees out of a large Bordeaux stem. This is a wine that will be best with a great meal which needs something like a Rib Eye with some nice marbling. Look up a recipe of Bistecca alla Fiorentina and serve with herb roasted potatoes for an incredible evening with friends. Tasting Notes by Consulting Master Sommelier Ian Cauble
Winemaker Notes
Meritage, pronounced like heritage, first appeared in the 1980s after a group of American vintners joined forces to create a name for New World wines blended in the traditional Bordeaux style. Meritage combines "merit," reflecting the quality of the grapes, with "heritage," which recognizes the centuries-old tradition of blending, long considered to be the highest form of the winemaker's art.
