Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2012 Beauregard Ranch Zinfandel is gorgeous and represents the ideal balance I look for in this varietal. The wine has a saturated dark ruby red core with pink highlights on the rim. The nose exhibits aromatics of freshly crushed wild raspberries, dried black cherry, chai tea powder, rose petal candy, strawberry yogurt and wet stones. The palate has the balance similar to a well made Pinot Noir, is medium bodied with soft tannins, and has layered flavors of various wild berries, white pepper, crushed stems and a touch of oak spice. This wine is beautiful now and will age beautifully over the next 5-7 years most likely peaking between 2017 and 2020 so try to keep your hands off a few bottles for another year or two. Service temperature is key here, not too warm. (Drink 2017-2025 65F Bordeaux Stems)

Vineyard Notes
This vineyard site was part of an original 160 acre vineyard and apple orchard planted in the early 1900’s. The vineyard was abandoned during prohibition and then resurrected in 1949 when retired Sherrif’s deputy Amos Beauregard purchased the property. It sits at an elevation of 1700 to 1850 feet on a southwest facing slope. Monterey Bay marine influences combine with sandy loam soil to produce wines with minerality and striking acidity. Plantings: Four acres Pinot Noir, clones: Pommard, 667 & 115. One acre Chardonnay, clone 4. Three acres Zinfandel, clone Primitivo. Four acres Cabernet Sauvignon, Dijon clone.
